Indonesian Batik has become a national dress and even has penetrated internationally.
Do you know? some motif has its own philosophy. In this article I will summarize some Motives of Yogyakarta's batik and its philosophy.

1. Kawung

2. Sido Mukti

3.Truntum

4.Ciptoning

5.Sido Mulyo

6.Sido Mulyo Semen




Sido means constant, whereas the mean Mulyo sufficiency and prosperity. It is expected that who wear this batik given sufficiency and prosperity.




7.Wahyu Temurun




Means Grace of God. Wearer expected always get a hint to face of their life by the Almighty.



8.Tambal

9.Udan Liris

History of Yogyakarta's Batik

As we know, Yogyakarta is one of the famous batik centers in Central Java. Yogyakarta's batik also has been known since a long time ago. The hallmark of Yogyakarta's batik is of  their background or base color fabric. The basic color of Yogyakarta's batik fabrics are of two kinds, namely white and black, while the batik colors can be white, blue-black, and brown Soga.

Yogyakarta's batik is one of the Indonesian batik that was originally made for the royal family only. Each motif embodied in Canting scratches in Yogyakarta's batik cloth was full of meaning. And that make Yogyakarta batik distinguishes from other batik, which keep Yogyakarta batik still have the exclusivity of a masterpiece of  the art and culture of Indonesia.

The History of Batik Yogyakarta


The origins of batik in Yogyakarta region was known since the first Mataram kingdom with its king named Panembahan Senopati. Batik was made the first time at  the village of Plered. Batik at the time confined within the family palace which is done by Queen's women helpers .
Due to the time of ancient warfare between families and between the kings of the Dutch colonial, there was many of the royal families were displaced and settled in new areas, among others, to Banyumas, Pekalongan, to the East region Ponorogo, Tulungagung and so on.
